Collings OM3 Traditonal w/ Adirondack and Indian Rosewood
The OM size, nearly 80 years after it was designed, has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitarists who play on steel strings, yet flatpickers also find it appealing. The OM3 model has been a personal favorite for Pete Townsend since he first began using Collings guitars in 2000. The compact shape makes the OM3 extremely comfortable and easy to handle either onstage or sitting on the couch. The relatively shallow body, at just over 4 deep, results in balanced tone and immediate response.
The Traditional Series or "T-Series” guitars reflect Bill Collings' return to his guitar making roots and offer a new tonal variation on the distinctive Collings sound. Each T-Series guitar is built using animal protein glue and a very thin, all nitrocellulose lacquer finish, making them exceptionally dynamic and responsive. Bracing and tone woods are adjusted for weight and thickness to create a voicing characterized by warm, rounded highs and a present low midrange, while retaining a quick attack and strong projection. To complete the package, all T-Series models include an original vintage-inspired Collings case that was designed and build by hand in-house for an unrivaled level of quality, fit and aesthetic that enhances the experience of owning a fine instrument.
Adirondack Spruce, "the holy grail" of topwoods, drives the top of this powerful instrument. Adirondack is generally favored by heavy handed players, and provides nearly unlimited headroom when you need the extra power.
On an open strum, the words clarity and richness come right to mind. The trebles are clean and defined without overpowering the overall richness of the bottom-end.
The gorgeous set of Indian Rosewood on the back and sides broadens out the dynamic range, bringing overtone rich low-end and mellow yet defined trebles. When fingerpicking, each note is rich and warm, yet well defined and easily articulated.
This guitar sounds every bit as beautiful as it looks! It is warm and complex but yet still crisp and clear. It sounds great both for flatpicking and fingerstyle. With a big voice, this is an instrument that will make you stand out in the band.
