Collings OM3A Adirondack and Brazilian Rosewood with Adirondack Braces
The OM size, nearly 80 years after it was designed, has become the most popular 14-fret model with fingerstyle guitarists who play on steel strings, yet flatpickers also find it appealing. The Collings OM3 model has been a personal favorite for Pete Townsend since he first began using Collings guitars in 2000. The compact shape makes the Collings OM3 extremely comfortable and easy to handle either onstage or sitting on the couch. The relatively shallow body, at just over 4 deep, results in balanced tone and immediate response.
Adirondack Spruce, "the holy grail" of topwoods, drives the top of this powerful instrument. Adirondack is generally favored by heavy handed players, and provides nearly unlimited headroom when you need the extra power.
On an open strum, the words clarity and richness come right to mind. The trebles are clean and defined without overpowering the overall richness of the bottom-end.
The gorgeous set of Brazilian Rosewood on the back and sides broadens out the dynamic range, bringing overtone rich low-end and mellow yet defined trebles. When fingerpicking, each note is rich and warm, yet well defined and easily articulated. This set of Brazilian Rosewood is truly superb in tone as well as aestetics. This guitar is truly a great one to add to any players collection.
The custom Adirondack Braces are lighter and stiffer than Sitka, therefore they are more responsive and offer a more efficient transfer of energy through the top.
The addition of the gorgeous Abalone Rosette, Flowerpot Headstock Inlay and Gold Waverly tuners, this instrument stands out in the crowd.
Other custom appointments include a custom nut width of 1 3/4" for those who find the standard 1 11/16" a bit too narrow for their playing style.
