Collings Prototype 0 12 Fret Engelmann Spruce with Mountain Cedar

While Collings has been revered for their contemporary take on Dreadnoughts and OM's, they, like many other builders have been increasingly interested in smaller bodied guitars, not only for their comfort and playability, but also for their complex tonal spectrum. We are excited to offer Collings Prototype Single 0 12-Fret 6-String which is their first new acoustic body size since 2006. This new 12-fret 0 body size features an elegant slotted peghead, 1 13/16" nut width, and comfortable 24 7/8" scale length.

The custom Englemann Spruce top offers both a quicker string attack, quicker decay, as well as slightly less lingering overtones - which can be a bit pesky depending upon your playing needs.

Chord accompaniment is full and crisp, and single note lines jump out at you. Rhythm players will appreciate that the Englemann top allows a heavier hand than Sitka, yet sounds a bit more like old Adirondack. Fingerpickers should not be left out, as the 24 7/8" inch short scale length makes Mississippi John Hurt songs sound brand new, however, modern chordal players will hear complex chords cleanly and clearly.

The back and sides are Mountain Cedar. Mountain Cedar "Spanish Cedar" is also know as Cedrela Montana. It is harvested from managed timber forest concession in Peru. There is no clear cutting and it does not come from plantations. It is dense and solid and has all the qualities of traditional Spanish Cedar but, unlike it’s cousin, this cedar species does not ooozz sap from it’s pores. This high elevation species has spectacular color, quality and stability.

This Prototype 0 is simply appointed with a tortoise bound body, a simple walnut backstrip, ebony fretboard, and bridge, and finished off with Nickel Waverly tuners.
