Collings SoCo All-Mahogany Body Tobacco Sunburst Lollar P90 Pickups

Named after Austin's funky and eclectic South Congress Avenue, the Collings SoCo Dlx is all about attitude. This model brings in elements from both the I-35 and CL models to create a unique hybrid that is all its own. Who says you can't have your cake and eat it too?

This custom Soco Dlx features a fully carved mahogany top with f-holes over a mahogany back and sides with an inset Alder center block. The Mahogany top provides a darker, warmer tone than the maple tops will produce (see our City Limits comparisons).

The rich tone and resonance of this guitar is astonishing, even without being plugged in. Notes are effortlessly articulated, responding to your ever command. The unique hand set mortise and tenon neck joint reflects Bill Collings philosophy – ingenuity and functionality. The angled shape of the joint fits perfectly in your palm. Reaching for the 21st fret is effortless; unlike any electric we’ve played before.

Collings collaborated with Jason Lollar for all their pickup designs and this guitar features the hand-wired Lollar P-90s. The lollar pickups have a fat P-90 tone with a smooth treble response, having more of a vintage sound, rather than a new pickup that sounds hard or harsh. Overall tone is brighter with less of a grind to the distortion quality and is slower to overdrive an amp than a standard P-90 set. They are capable of producing a vast array of tones, from pristine clean tones rich with harmonic complexity to hard-hitting vintage rock tones with enough focused growl to cut through any mix. Dial back the volume and tone, and you'll be surprised by the smooth, mellow tones that are available without ever getting muddy.
