Huss and Dalton DS Guitar Thermo-cured Red Spruce and Sinker Mahogany ID-9779
Huss and Dalton DS
Huss and Dalton DS Thermo-cured Red Spruce and Caracolillo Sinker Mahogany ID-9779
This slope shouldered guitar is a powerhouse. Big in sound but not short on clarity this guitar is a nod to the traditional slope shoulder guitars of the 30's and 40's.
The Huss and Dalton DS is a beautiful guitar with a great voice and feel for flatpicking, strumming, and an excellent choice for fingerstyle players, too. Like most slope shouldered dreadnoughts, this one has a little more midrange pop because of the radiused top and the larger soundhole. The slope dreadnought is also recognized as an all around perfect singer-songwriter guitar, known for excellent balance and bigger midrange character.
The custom torrefied Red Spruce top brings an extra warmth and bass element to this combination of tone woods, and when coupled with Sinker Mahogany offers strong fundamentals, a lightning quick response, crisp trebles, and virtually unlimited headroom. Red Spruce was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Red Spruce has a high stiffness across and along the grain, making it one of the go-to topwoods for being heard in a mix of instruments.
The Sinker Mahogany back produces a tone that is clear and powerful. The low end is spectacular and much more prominent than many standard mahogany guitars of this size. The midrange, while maintaining stunning clarity and definition, is very smooth and pleasant, making for a very balanced sound without the harsh upper mids and trebles that can sometimes take place.
Lending clarity and punch to the guitar is Huss and Dalton’s exclusive hand split Adirondack bracing, which helps to add stiffness to the small top, however, never at the sacrifice of the responsiveness.
This DS was special ordered without the standard sunburst, and the caramel hue of the torrefied top adds a vintage charm to the look of this guitar.
