Pre Owned Collings 01 Sitka Spruce with Mahogany Back and Sides 2012

This pre owned Collings 01 features a Select Sitka Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides. Sitka has a lower stiffness-to-weight ratio than Adirondack Red Spruce. A positive side-effect of this more flexible soundboard is that it doesn't require as much strength (or string attack) to produce it's signature balanced sonic tone.

While Collings has been revered for their contemporary take on Dreadnoughts and OM's, they, like many other builders have been increasingly interested in smaller bodied guitars, not only for their comfort and playability, but also for their complex tonal spectrum. Collings was intrigued by a early Martin 14 fret single 0, and decided to build their own modern masterpiece.

The 0 style guitar was originally designed by Martin in the 1850's to have a 12 fret neck joint. The fourteen 14 fret single 0 was redesigned in the early 1930's to have a 14 fret neck joint. The Collings 0 is only 13.5 inches in width, which is smaller than a classical guitar and from Collings' website: "the 0 has a tone and volume that belies its first impression as being less than full-sized. It can double as a travel guitar or a small OM, performing both roles equally well." We couldn't agree more.

A player with a lighter attack or even fingerstyle players will find Sitka Spruce much more suited to their playing style. Sitka accentuates the warm round aspects of the guitar’s tone. It is the most frequent choice in acoustic steel string guitars, and for good reason! It responds to bare fingers, as well as a pick attack, and handles both with aplomb.

The gorgeous Mahogany back and sides provide a flat EQ response, dry, crisp note character, and certainly definition of note. When played chordally, Mahogany will allow you to hear each and every note in a complex chord, plus single note runs will be crystal clear.

The 01 is simply appointed in a tortoise bound body, a simple walnut backstrip, ebony fretboard, and bridge, and finished off with Nickel Waverly tuners. The 1 11/16" standard nut width has been upgraded to a 1 3/4" nut for easier fingering of chord shapes.

This Pre-Owned 2012 Collings 01 Sitka Spruce with Mahogany Back and Sides has no wear to mention. It is in Excellent + Condition.
