Pre Owned 2013 Collings D1 Indian Sitka Spruce and Indian Rosewood with Adirondack Braces
Collings brings new clarity to the depth and warmth associated with large, deep-bodied dreadnought guitars. The bass response makes the dreadnought ideal for vocal accompaniment, however, Collings D1 Series Mahogany dreads are employed by some of the busiest bluegrass flatpickers in the business, such as Andy Falco of the Stringdusters and Adam Aijala of Yonder Mountain String Band.
This instrument features a Sitka Spruce top combined with Indian Rosewood back and sides. This combination is favorable for many playing styles as it offers the most versatility in regards to heavy or light playing. Rosewood offers a lush, rich tone with lots of reverberation like properties and a full low end. Sitka can be played fingerstyle or with a flatpick and can excel at both.
It is ideal for flatpickers who don't require the stiffness of Adirondack, offering more volume and responsiveness from a lighter touch. When combined with rosewood on the back and sides, Sitka is very lush and has a warm, rich low end.
Sitka is ideal for players who find Adirondack Red Spruce too punchy, bright, and stiff - but do not want to sacrifice on clarity. Sitka Spruce is a versatile topwood that accentuates the warm round aspects of the guitar's tone.
This guitar is also incredibly balanced in it's frequency response. Notes are rich and full all the way up and down the neck. The midrange and high-end sparkle will cut through any studio or on-stage mix with ease. The lows are balanced, defined, well rounded, and never boomy.
Additional custom appointments include Adirondack braces, and no tongue brace. Adirondack braces are thinner and lighter making the guitar much more resonant and open.
As people search for the mythical tone of old guitars, the tongue brace comes into scrutiny. Martin added the tongue brace in 1940 and it has become standard every since. The absence of a tongue brace frees the top to allow enhanced vibration and results in a richer, fuller, tone with more low end resonance.
This is a great feature for players who may be looking for a compromise between the mahogany and rosewood dreadnoughts. It is speculated that Martin added the brace to prevent top cracking, but the years have proven this to have been unnecessary and actually decreases resonation.
This Pre Owned 2013 Collings D1 Indian Sitka Spruce and Indian Rosewood with Adirondack Braces has a few minor surface scratches on the pickguard and back which we have attempted to capture in the detailed photos below. It has very minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.
