Santa Cruz Eric Skye Signature Model 00-Skye Italian Spruce and Cocobolo
Portland based jazz guitarist and namesake of the Santa Cruz Eric Skye was dubbed by 20th Century Guitar Magazine as "one of the best rising stars of the American acoustic jazz scene." This hardworking instrumentalist has gained a loyal following both as a dramatic and expressive live performer and an in-demand acoustic guitar instructor both in Oregon and in the online music community. Skye has been featured in magazines such as Acoustic Guitar, Guitar Player, Jazziz and Jazz Improv, and his music can be heard on NPR.
This Custom OO Skye has been dreamed up with a gorgeous Cocobolo Back & Sides Set combined with an Italian Spruce Top, unique 24.9 inch scale length for ease of playability, deeper body for added bass and volume, hot hide glue with Adirondack Spruce scalloped bracing and Custom Koa Rosette and Bindings.
The Combination of Cocobolo back and sides with an Italian Spruce top creates a tone that is incredibly warm and responsive across the spectrum. Italian spruce yields a distinctive sonic profile relative to other spruce species. Visually it often shares the lighter complexion of Engelmann spruce. Tonally it blends the power and headroom of Adirondack spruce with a touch of cedar's warmth. Depending on the body style and wood it's paired with, it can match well with sophisticated chords and fingerstyle arrangements, strummers with a firm attack, and any player looking for a responsive tone with nice complexity. Cocobolo, the heaviest of the rosewood family, offers beautiful tone and is known to provide a strong bass response in guitars. Visually, it is an especially attractive tonewood, especially on this guitar, displaying large grain with long heavy streaks of red and black.
