Vintage 1973 Hagstrom Swede with Cherry Finish
The Swedish Hagstrom Company started manufacturing electric guitars in 1958. The first Hagstrom solidbody guitar featured a sparkle celluloid finish, a very cool choice of materials borrowed from their accordion production line. The original Hagstrom Company stopped production in 1983, making the guitars instant collectables. The artists that have played these instruments are as classic and diverse as the Hagstrom body shapes: Elvis Presley, Frank Zappa, Björn Ulvaeus (ABBA), Bryan Ferry (Roxy Music), David Bowie, ZZ Top, Noel Redding, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford (Genesis), The Beatles, and many more. This vintage 1973 Hagstrom Swede is Sweden's version of a Les Paul. In 1973 there were only 200 guitars produced in batch 851, this instrument is number 191 or the 200. It plays and sounds fantastic and features a Mahogany body 5-ply bound carved mahogany top, set mahogany neck, bound Resinator fretboard, Hagstrom Custom '58 humbuckers, dual volume and tone knobs 3-way selector toggle, tone filter toggle with center bypass. Hagstrom 18:1 die-cast tuners and a 24.75" scale.
This guitar has an amazing warm, full and rich sound, almost like an original Gibson Les Paul, but a bit more vintage and is perfect for blues, jazz, rock, and even classic metal. The pickups have a well defined sound and you can clearly hear all the notes even with a lot of distortion. Additionally the tone filter, can be useful to achieve a wide variety of sounds.
This guitar is in excellent condition for a vintage instrument with only minor surface scratches and dents as seen in the detailed photos below. It has minor fretwear and includes the original hardshell case.
