Santa Cruz Vintage Artist

This custom Vintage Artist from Santa Cruz is far from the standard model with upgrades that take this model to an entirely new and exciting level.  This Vintage Artist, one of our favorite Santa Cruz models, has been upgraded to Brazilian Rosewood using customer supplied wood.  Brazilian Rosewood is the legendary wood used on the early Martin dreadnoughts that we have all grown to love.  This species of rosewood is currently under very strict export regulations and is virtually extinct.   The few remaining sets will unquestionably be highly protected and the value of these guitars is certain to rise as the supply of Brazilian Rosewood suitable for building guitars continues to shrink.  The tone of Brazilian is unmatched... with rich, deep low end and sparkling trebles with never ending sustain.   Simply put... it is the sound we all look for in any rosewood guitar.

The topwood on this guitar has been upgraded to Adirondack Spruce, which is the stiffest of all the top tonewoods and known for it's incredibly high headroom and lightening fast attack.  For heavy handed players... there is no substitute, Adirondack is your topwood!

This Vintage Artist doesn't just stop at the tonewood upgrades, there are a few more surprises in store!  This guitar was braced and voiced according to 1934D specifications, favoring a low end punch, as opposed to the string balance Santa Cruz is famous for.  The desired tone was certainly achieved, thanks in addition to the hot hide glue and Adirondack bracing, as this guitar has an incredible thump to it while retaining a clear and focused hi end, not found on some of the early vintage instruments.  Adirondack bracing, being stiffer than Sitka, offers a more immediate response, as it is much more efficient than sitka bracing, allowing for a more immediate transfer of energy.  Hot Hide Glue adds a new level of clarity to the Vintage Artist series.  Hide Glue isn't used much anymore due to it being so messy and time-consuming.  The tonal benefit, however, cannot be denied and this feature is a very popular upgrade on many of our instruments, adding an undeniable additional level of responsiveness.

A custom neck profile was also added to this instrument.  Featuring a 1 3/4" nut width, the profile is more rounded and leans more towards a thicker vintage Martin neck profile, while still retaining modern playability.
