Maton Guitars Custom Shop Grand Royale Jumbo
Andy Allen joined the team at Maton in 1994. After 22 years on the floor, he was chosen as their lead craftsman to launch the Maton Custom Shop in 2006.
In the 16 years as Master Luthier, this Grand Royale Jumbo represents the1,400 guitars that Andy has built in a prolific tribute to Bill May.
Custom Shop Serial # 1400
Hard Rock or "Sugar" Maple has nearly twice the surface hardness as Big Leaf Maple, more common with mass produced guitars. The weight (or specific gravity) of Hard Rock Maple is directly related to the janka hardness. Hard Rock Maple offers a sturdier bass register while also deflecting sound waves further (more projection = greater volume).
The European Spruce soundboard has a clean, clearer note articulation than Sitka Spruce. As a stiffer species, it is potentially louder. We can appreciate why Andy would choose this tone wood to compliment the denser Rock Maple back & sides.
Maton Custom Shop models are built solely by Master Builder Andy Allen. He hand picks the premium wood sets for his master grade collection. Andy has built guitars for many famous Maton artists. His detailed work for each creation is captured in photos during the build process for each guitar, accompanied by a USB drive with dozens of photos for each specific guitar.
This Maton Custom Shop Jumbo is equipped with the AP5 Pro. The AP5 Pro now features Separate Microphone and Piezo input controls allow for blending of both microphone and piezo levels prior to sending the actively combined signals through to the tone circuits and master volume. Highly selective cardioid microphone system allows for much greater microphone level before feedback in live environments.
This newly upgraded microphone is direct mounted to the pre-amp casing via an adjustable arm, which permits easy final tweaking of microphone position to suit the individual artists style.
