1964 Vintage Gibson SG Special Polaris White ID-5197
1964 Vintage Gibson SG Special Polaris White
The Gibson SG was introduced in 1961. Gibson gave the Les Paul a thinner, flat-topped mahogany body and a double cutaway. They also moved the neck joint by three frets. This makes the upper notes more accessible.
The new Gibson model featured a slimmer neck profile and a virtually non-existent heel. Gibson advertised the new SG as having the "fastest neck in the world." Despite overwhelming popularity, Les Paul requested his named be dropped. Gibson honored his request, naming the new design the "SG," which stood for "Solid Guitar."
Some of the most famous guitar players of all time have played Gibson SG model guitars... Eric Clapton, Angus Young, and Tony Iommi are among the most recognized.
This "SG Special" features the Soapbar P-90 pickups with the original small 3-layer pickguard. The "Polaris White" finish has held up incredibly well. It has only a small bit of finish checking and only a few chips. Check out the specs on this Vintage Gibson. It could be just what you've been missing.
