2007 Martin D-28 Marquis Madagascar Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce

Crafted to evoke the same powerful tone and sonorous projection as a pre-WWII D-28, the Martin D-28 Marquis Madagascar acoustic guitar differs only by using the very scarce Madagascar rosewood instead of Brazilian rosewood. The Marquis guitar delivers powerful sounds with scalloped Adirondack spruce braces and forward-shifted X-bracing. A special aging toner gives the wood a vintage appearance.

The list of historically accurate details, nearly overwhelming and totally exhaustive, captures the authentic spirit of the Martin D-28: mahogany blocks/dovetail neck joint construction, slot-through saddle, herringbone binding, neck dart, zipper back marquetry, ivoroid binding, herringbone top trim, butterbean tuners, and old-style wood fiber rosette.

Madagascar Rosewood resonates evenly responsive across the entire tonal register and provides a crisp, sparkling treble commonly associated with Brazilian Rosewood. Madagascar is also becoming very scarce, and is under very strict import/export regulations, so the value of this tonewood is only going to get higher through the years.

The top is Adirondack Spruce. Adirondack is the stiffest of the spruce tonewoods and was used on all of the early guitars we love. After the war, supplies had dwindled and Sitka Spruce became the standard. While a great tonewood in itself, Sitka simply can't reproduce the clarity and lightening fast attack that Adirondack is famous for... not to mention the sheer power it is capable of when you need it.
