2008 Bourgeois Slope D Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood with Sunburst Finish ID-6377
2008 Bourgeois Slope D Adirondack and Madagascar Rosewood with Sunburst Finish
The 12 Fret Bourgeois Slope D's deep, rich tone is enhanced by a red spruce "Adirondack" top and Madagascar Rosewood sides and back. The 12 Fret design puts the sound hole closer to the waist of the guitar and the bridge farther down on the lower bout. Placement of the bridge at this wider location on the lower bout provides a loose, open quality to the sound. The Ebony Belly bridge is able to drive the top from the widest point on the body.
Adirondack Spruce, "the holy grail" of topwoods, drives the top of this powerful instrument. Adirondack is generally favored by heavy handed players, and provides nearly unlimited headroom when you need the extra power, yet on this Slope D, also provides a quick and lively response that fingerstyle players aren't accustomed to with traditional dreadnoughts.
This guitar was built with Adirondack top bracing, as are all of Bourgeois's guitars. The Adirondack top bracing effectively stiffens the top a bit more, providing more headroom, a more defined note, and a faster response time.
Here's what Dana Bourgeois says about Madagascar: "Madagascar rosewood will probably get you closest to the sound of Brazilian, and at a much lower price. Madagascar has much of the same rich overtone range as Brazilian, as well as a slightly "reverby" quality. It's a little heavier than Brazilian, so I have to be careful about selecting the right top and the right neck in order to keep the weight down and not adversely effect its response characteristics. " Since Dana himself still picks every top, back and side for each guitar he builds, this isn't a problem with his builds.
The tone of this guitar is extremely balanced, with a dry, clear note definition and a presence that only Adirondack Spruce and Madagascar Rosewood can offer. This guitar practically begs to be placed in front of a microphone... those vintage tones you have heard on recordings for years is right at your fingertips. The Adi top has a huge sound, and while the bass is massive, it is still defined, never mushy.
This 2008 12 Fret Slope D has slight scratches to the top, back and sides which do not extend through the finish and can be seen in the detailed photos below. Additionally there is a slight haze on the top beside the fretboard which can also be seen in detailed photos. It has no fret wear to speak of and comes with the original hardshell case.
