2008 Bourgeois Vintage Style JOM Madagascar Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce

The Bourgeois Vintage Style JOM is an original body style developed by Dana in the late 80's, in response to players' requests for a mid-sized guitar having the balance and clarity of an OM--but with a bigger presence.

The idea was simple: Start with the OM outline, enlarge it a bit, play around with the curves and deepen the sides. The result is a wonderfully versatile guitar; larger than an OM, smaller than a Dreadnought, capable of handling almost any playing style you can imagine, and equally capable of operating in solo or ensemble situations.

If you need one guitar to convincingly cut a variety of styles--on stage, in the studio, or just around the house--it's hard to think of a more useful guitar than a Bourgeois JOM. In Adirondack spruce and Madagascar rosewood, the JOM is a killer flatpicking guitar, and much more comfortable to get your arm around than a dreadnought.

Adirondack spruce, also known as Eastern Red Spruce, was the legendary topwood used on most pre-war American-made guitars. Properly sawn, Adirondack is much stiffer than Sitka and Engelmann spruce, both along and across the grain. This allows Dana to make thinner, lighter tops, resulting in lightning-quick response with plenty of power to spare. Most guitar grade "Adirondack" spruce these days comes from Bourgeois' backyard--the state of Maine, which still has large stands of original and second growth softwood forests.

The key feature of this JOM is the 2 piece Madagascar rosewood back and sides. Madagascar Rosewood is largely confined to the lowland rainforest plains of Eastern Madagascar. It is considered a kindred spirit to the almighty Brazilian and shares the same articulate highs, deep lows and considerable dynamic range while providing rich sustain and complex overtones. Madagascar also shares some of the striking visual appeal of Brazilian and is becoming as scarce, due to modern export and harvesting regulations. Most Madagascar built guitars are constructed using 4 piece backs, Dana used 2 pieces of Madagascar rosewood on this special NAMM build.

To round out the visual package, the JOM Vintage also features herringbone top trim, ivoroid body binding, slotted squares and diamonds inlay, vintage tortoiseshell pickguard, vintage-style top toner, and nickel Waverly tuners.

This used guitar has a few finish scratches on the pickguard. There are a few scratches on the back, shown in the photographs. There is a ding on the back of the neck. There are some dings and a few scratches on the headstock, as well. A K&K pickup is installed.
